The first time I saw her I feared the sea too much. She sailed the night, the moon hung for a lamp on her mast. I wait and watch the waves. Next time I will brave salt’s sting.
This post was made in response to the Trifecta Writing Challenge prompt:
We are asking for a 33-word response to the following snippet: The first time I saw. . .
Here’s the catch: all of your 33 words must be one syllable each. We’re going low-brow on your this week. Or not. Can you class it up under these restrictions? Give us your best. (For a total of 38 words.)
I have been missing you, Trifecta. Now that the holidays are well behind us, I’m looking forward to all the words, in multiples of three or not.
Breathtaking! Love the imagery and resolve at the end. Great piece. 🙂

I still call it “The big ocean”, my mom loves to tell that story of the first time i saw the NJ shoreline.
I loved this because I think the first time we see anything that is so much bigger and mightier than us, we feel that sense of being small.
The important thing is that we “Brave the sea’s salt”
just beautiful.

Nice take on the prompt, very inviting, first contact with the sea.

The first time I saw the nude moon it gave me a start. Bare, shamed and with no cloth, she stood mute yet with her mouth shut just so. Her glow was like the mist in a way.

We all strike out a lot. The important thing is to keep writing. A hard thing, sometimes. I think this was a great piece. Seriously, have you posted it to Trifecta? If not, you should. Folks there will love it.
