Dissonance

Anji was blessed never to know darkness—I thought.

One morning, I followed her harp’s melody through pre-dawn twilight into a green meadow. A shadow brushed her lips and disappeared with the sunrise.

“My beloved,” she told me, plucking a minor chord. “Cursed never to see the sun.”

It is, but as Nate pointed out to me, I didn’t make it clear that the narrator is just observing – they caught Anji’s beloved as he faded away with the sunrise. (Inspired by George MacDonald’s novel The Day Boy and the Night Girl.) I needed like 5 more words… *grumbles*
