Barbi stands with her back to the mountains, arms raised. Behind her, heat-haze suggests a lake where there isn’t one. Jack revs his engine.
For a minute, I forget I’m gonna lose.
When the dust settles, Jack’s waiting, already smoking. Barbi, though, she saved her smile for me.

I could picture this vividly, the heat haze, the mountains, the cars and dust. I wasn’t sure why Barbi had her arms raised.

She was starting the race. I ran out of room to put in the scarf she was holding. 🙂

I could absolutely see this without looking at the image. I’ll admit I was thinking of Barbie and her plastic smile at the start and loved that the smile was the final line.
